What do you think of this chair? I love it! When I was young my grandparents had a pair of these and I remember my granddad used to sit on it and read the paper in the morning sun. Now these Parker style chairs are worth a lot of money, and look great when recovered in modern fabric.
On the weekend we had a wedding to go to in Wollongong. And what should we see where we parked the car? A pair of these style chairs out on the kerb for garbage day! They needed recovering and probably a bit of work, but really what are the chances of finding a matching pair.
This conversation follows:
Me: “wow Dan look at those chairs.. We should take them”
Dan: “I don’t know.. where would we put them.. we have no space”
Me: “but we’re driving Kate’s truck. There’s plenty of space in the back. It was obviously meant to be. We can put them in the garage until we have space for them..”
Dan: ” Someone might see us”
Me: “they wouldn’t put it there if they wanted it. Please…”.
Dan: “I don’t think so”
And so with that conversation is over, as can’t exactly grab them myself in heels. Now I am kicking myself. This revamped pair featured in the July issue of Home Beautiful at Southwood Home is $2750 for the pair.
Darn husband!!!

Inspired by Mel and Suzie I thought I’d share some images from my copy of the Womans Day Complete Book of Handicrafts, 1973. Its a great book featuring a range of crafts and really detailed instructions, however some of the projects are daggy in the way that only 1974 craft books can be…

Hurray Words and Pictures is back! I love trying to imagine a somewhat left of centre interpretation of Pip’s themes.
This week its given me an opportunity to post another of my loves, which is vintage photo’s.

I love this picture. The children look so happy. In the background there is a water tank and farm house. One thing I love about vintage photos taken in the country is the contrast between the untidiness of the Australian countryside and the way the subjects are dressed, usually in Sunday best. The picture features my mother in law Jan (on the right) with her sisters, one of whom is named Joy.

This week in the snippets of spare time I’ve had, I have been trying to tidy and reorganise my sewing area.

We live in a place with two bedrooms only, and as such most of my sewing stuff lives in the corner of the bedroom in this chest of drawers. The chest of drawers is covered in a hexagon quilt which I began in 2000 to cover a king size bed. As you can see I settled for cot size in the end as I moved on to other crafting projects.
The reorganisation is a bit of a work in progress so hopefully I’ll have more pictures to post later on.

Also in my now very tidy creative space is a piece of angora/ acrylic blend fabric I bought for two dollars at my local op shop, it is the most gorgeous shade of rhubarb pink. It might end up as softies, which will be a new adventure as I’ve never sewed with a knit fabric before. And to top it all off my new Moo cards, featuring the banner that Kellie made for me a few weeks ago.

Last weekend when Dan was walking home from the shops he found this cabinet on the footpath abandoned.

What do you think? It is quite big and looks like it might be from the 20-30′s? It definitely needs some work. I think we’ll sand it back, maybe line the back with some nice wallpaper, who knows. I am always surprised by the stuff that people throw out.

For a long time now I have collected vintage kitchen wares, particularly mixing bowls. I love to think about the women before me who have used them to make dinner or their kids birthday cakes. I love that they are usually easy to find and not overly expensive, and I love the colours and shapes that you often find of them.
This is some of my collection. Most of it is in storage boxes as we live in a very small space. One day I’d love to have them all out though…
