I finished New Look 6594 last week and wore it for the first time today.  I am thrilled with how it’s turned out.  Overall the pattern was super easy and fits well without any modifications needed.  I purchased this pattern after seeing it reviewed here.  This is exactly the sort of thing I like to wear often summer to the park, shops, and out visiting, I still feel girly but it looks okay with my thongs too.  Speaking of thongs Hamish has a major shoe fetish and I am only wearing one because he has pinched the other.

I think I will definitely make another of these for the summer.

Well I wanted to show you a pic of my recently completed and highly adapted Burda 131 A line skirt from Burda Magazine 9/2009.

My first was a dismal failure.  Frankly the second is okay, I took it in a lot and in the end did away with the waistband and belt loops all together as I didn’t think they were necessary for the fabric I was using, plus I tend to wear skirts on my hips anyway.  I am not sure that the darts at the front are in the right spot for me, but then I am not sure where I would move them to, or get rid of them all together.  Needless to say I won’t remake it.

Because the fabric is quite thick and it is a casual skirt I didn’t bother lining it, but I did use handmade bias tape to finish the inner waist seam.  This wasn’t suggested in the pattern, I just thought it would be work, and the spots make me smile.

It’s no great creation but I think its looks okay and will be nice to wear around when doing my usual Mum duties.. park, shops etc.

Also we are at the beginning of an exciting week.  We are moving out on Saturday.  I have packed umpteen boxes but I think this move is going to be pretty easy since we moved half of our stuff out pre sale.  It’s also the anniversary of Dan and I’s first meeting on Saturday (12 years now)… which I think is a rather nice coincidence.

Surely y’all know I love to make skirts, or that at the moment they’re the item I’m brave enough to make.  Anyway I finished my Wiksten tulip skirt on Saturday, it’s yet to be worn out of the house though.

I am so happy with it, the finish is really neat, and the denim is so soft.  I worked really hard on the top-stitching and I think its pretty straight.  I used top-stitching thread rather than regular,  and boy does it play around with the tension.  I also used gorgeous vintage buttons which I picked up here.

To set the record straight so far I have attempted a couple of tops.   This one after seeing Sandra’s version, I made it too big and out of this awful filmy fabric that swished all over the place.  I’m going to try it again in a jersey next, perhaps I’m a sucker for punishment.  And I also made a smashing smock.  I always seem to overestimate my top size.  Hopefully soon I’ll have a finished top to show.  Your only likely to see it though, if it  is a. really good, or b. so bad its funny.

ps. The magazine and pattern were very generously loaned to me by Bron and Suzy.  Thanks so much I’ll get your magazines back to you both in the next week.

Happy new Year!

I made this skirt late last year out of a thrifted piece of fabric from one of Bega’s fine op-shops. I love it! I wore it Christmas day and on New Years Eve. I didn’t follow a pattern I ‘winged it’ a little, just making sure that the print matched up. It has an invisible zipper at the back.

I made this skirt on the weekend for a little friend.  I used the free Oliver + s pattern.  It certainly is a nice change to sew girls clothes!

Not its not at the base of tree in the sun… though that would be nice.  This week I am working on a few projects…

My new Lion softie, I was excited to think that there aren’t many Lion softies around, but Rosalie pipped me at the post.

My first garment!!!  A denim wrap around skirt from McCall’s 5430 .  Hopefully it will look as good as Sarah’s.

And some owls for an order.

As always thanks to Kirsty for hosting.
