Well I’ve had a massive weekend of sewing.  Yesterday I did quite alot and I feel as though I got the hang of the overlocker too.

First up I made three pairs of pants for the boys

Hamish looking coy in his new duds.

All are made from navy corduroy (exciting hah), two have car fabric trim, and one has robot fabric trim.  The pattern for the two with mutton-chop pockets is one that I have been trying to perfect for a little while.  I think the legs need to be more tapered though it’s probably hard to tell from the pictures.

Hugging boys showing off a side view of their new pants.

Next up was my second schoolhouse tunic.  It really is a very generous pattern.  This time I made the size 10-12 and still took it in a little.  I overlapped the front bodice slightly as well.  I also lengthened it by about 1 inch and a half.  I really like how it turned out, though it’s still really roomy.  Perfect for today’s Craft Room meet day, as there was plenty of space for stomach expansion.

The fabric is a lovely Linen blend I purchased from Spotlight 6 months ago.  The splotchy print reminds me of lots and lots of berries.

What do you think?

Well then, my creative space this week  has been super busy.

I am currently working on writing a pattern for my Moby Whale which will be available as a PDF download through my online store.  I am super excited about it.

I am also working on pants for the boys (again)

I am a little addicted to making pants for them, this is my 6th pair.  At the moment I am tweaking my pattern to make a ‘perfect’ toddler pant.  I am learning that:

-my two year old needs pants that are a little higher at the back to accomodate his nappy

-I like a straightleg

-I really, really want an overlocker

-the 3 and a half year looks better with a proper flat front, and waistband

-his butt is superflat so his pants don’t need to be too deep

This pair are made from charcoal denim that I picked up from the oppy.  A 4 metre piece for $15, which is a bargain.  The feature fabric is a linen kawaii print ordered from karaku

I am also thinking of a simple project that I can take away with me… we are headed to North Queensland on Monday for a week and I’d like something simple to do.  I’m thinking embroidery.  I love these comfort stitching patterns.

As usual a big thanks to Kirsty for hosting

I just finished sewing the binding on this quilt, and couldn’t wait to show you all.  I am really happy with how it has turned out and am loving working with linen.  I think the linen gives it a fresher look and is a good contrast to the vibrantly patterned fabric.

I don’t mind hand sewing the binding on as it gives me a chance to admire my work, but I did find that my hand seemed achey at times.  Then I found this post from Leslie which lead me to this tutorial on metred corners and this video on machine sewing binding.  So I think I might give that  a try next time.

PS: Sorry for the bad pics, it sure is hard photgraphing quilts!
