We planted a vegie garden when we first moved in.  Its been going pretty well, this is the weekends harvest.  The kids love getting in the garden to have a look and pulling out the vegetables that are ready.

Rachel

howdy, I got loads done this weekend.  I’m on a bit of a sewing kick for my boys at the moment.  I feel like I make so much that leaves this house I should make the occasional thing for them too.

So I made some pants

They are made out the most lovely light steely blue thick corduroy and the red trim has little cowboys on bucking horses.  Oh how I wish I bought more of that fabric.

I also made Cadel this little “man bag”.  We are going on holiday at the end of the month and be darned if I am going to carry his 10 engines and Thomas books in my handbag.  I used the “child’s messenger bag”  pattern from One Yard wonders.  I changed it slightly and I think there was a mistake in the pattern which meant a little blue language.  It turned out great and Cadel loves it.  He choose the train print linen I was trying to encourage him to go with Robots but he was rather insistent.

Cadel was so excited that he had to wear his new outfit out visiting this afternoon.

I also made some of my new bear softie which I hope to have photographed soon, and started some pjamas for the boys as well.

Also we are now the proud owners of a slow cooker.  It had its maiden voyage  on friday with Beef Stroganoff which was amazingly good, super easy, and I made enough for three meals (hurrah!).  I think its going to make my cooking life alot easier.

How was your weekend

Rachel

Well not quite… actually not at all.  That said though, at the moment I’m parent, cook, cleaner etc.  Dan started a new job a couple of weeks ago which has meant lots of extra long hours, and so I haven’t had a lot of spare time lately, and therefore haven’t been doing much blogging.  His new job is a really positive thing for our family so I am very happy about it all, and frankly I am so glad that I am able to work from home at the moment, as I don’t think we’d be managing as a family if I was back in my old job.

Anyhoo I’ve also been keeping busy with a new design which I hope to show off, when I can get some good pictures, and I have been working on making some clothes for the boys.  I realised last night that Cadel has no winter pj’s that fit him so I think that’ll be my next thing as its getting a bit chilly here.

Well this last weekend was lovely.  Saturday was a long day of sewing, and on Sunday we went to the markets here and ate spinach and fetta Gozleme for lunch.

I have nearly finished the surprise, its at the editing stage now.

I pieced some blocks for my new couch quilt.  I am using a honey bun of Wonderland by MoMo.  I did take some pictures but the light wasn’t good enough.  So I’ll try again tomorrow.

I finished some softies including Henrietta the pink Hippo

Henrietta will go into my online stores tomorrow morning.

I was also busy opening a Made It store on the weekend for Australian customers.  It currently has a couple of Owls in it including this one

Anyhow thats enough shameless self promotion for now.

On weekends Dan loves to cook scones, and at the moment this recipe is a favourite especially with Cadel.

Ingredients

3 cups plain flour

6 teaspoons baking powder

pinch salt

50 grams butter

3/4 cup chopped dates

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 1/4 cup milk

extra milk, cinnamon, and sugar

Recipe

Sift flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together.  Add dates.  Squish butter with knife or hands until it is broken into very small pieces. Mix milk in quickly to a soft dough .  Lightly knead.

Dust tray with flour press dough onto tray and mark into even scone sized pieces (usually about 12).  Brush with extra butter and dust tops of scones with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

Bake for 10 minutes at 220 degrees.

These are great served warm with fresh coffee.

Hey folks!

I have decided to share a recipe with you all once a week.

This week it is the recipe for my Mum’s Smoked salmon quiche.  This is a great quiche as it is lovely and light, and is tasty served hot or cold.  Its also great for picnics.

Ingredients

4 Egg yolks

2 Eggs

1 1/2 cups of cream

nutmeg (freshly grated if possible)

Pepper and salt (to taste)

100 grams Smoked Salmon

1/2 a bunch of dill

1 bunch and shallots

1 bunch of chives

Shortcrust pastry (Fresh or frozen)

Recipe

Preheat oven to 180 degrees.  Blind bake base for 15 minutes.  Then lower oven temperature to 150 degrees.

Chop dill, shallots, and chives.  Cook shallots in a generous nob of butter until soft, then add dill and chives and warm through.  Take of heat and cool.

Dice smoked salmon.

Combine other ingredients.  Whisk very gently until just combined.

Put Shallot mixture and smoked salmon evenly in cooked base.  Pour in egg mixture.

Bake at 150 degrees for 45 minutes.

Lovely served hot with asparagus and truffle oil mash, or cold with a nice green salad.

Enjoy

The weather was so gorgeous today we decided to head over to Petersham Park for a picnic with Daniel’s parents.  Cadel and Hamish had a great time playing and eating grass (respectively).

We dined on this…

Smoked Salmon Quiche with salad, and ….

Gramma pie with cream… yum.

Then we left the kids with their grandparents and headed over to Newtown for a glass of wine at the Bank hotel and a browse in the shops.  Lovely…

Happy Easter

Rachel
